This Thursday the pairing draw of the tournament will be held, with Italian Jannik Sinner the top seed, Djokovic second and Alcaraz third.
Alcaraz, world number 3 and recent Roland Garros and Wimbledon champion, arrives in New York after losing at the Cincinnati Masters 1,000 last week in the round of 32 to Frenchman Gael Monfils.
It was the first time this year that Alcaraz, who resurfaced on the circuit after winning a silver medal at the Paris Olympic Games, fell in his tournament debut.
