Gary Bell believes the pressure is starting better from Greenland as they try to secure a place in this Saturday’s final promotion from rivals and Hollywood bosses.
As things stand, even a home win on Glenkin Avenue over the weekend, and the final game of next season, at home against Plunkett, may not be enough, and Hollywood can still secure a place in next season 1B. They receive shorts for points from a closed match at home.
However, even if it’s not in Greenland’s hands, a Hollywood relegation to first and second in front of the two teams is still possible, and while it remains that way, former Ballyclare Bell teammates insist Greenland will give them their all.
“If we don’t win on Saturday, we’ll be left out completely, and Hollywood and Blunkett will rise,” the veteran left-back explained.
“It’s not up to us, we have to win on Saturday and then rely on the shorts to do us a favor, but the shorts are there, fourth, so we don’t know.
But there is still a lot to play, we played some great games where we knew we had to win and we got there and won.
“But to go to the last game of the season, that would be good for the tournament, so hopefully we can get to the last round.
“We have a lot of big guys, I’m (Paul) McCord, (Chris) Malone, Simon Moffat, we’re about seven or eight people we used to be and we know what we’re talking about, so that’s good to be around the smallest guys and push them.
So let’s hope we can make it to the last day, it would be great if we could, but if not, we’re clearly not good enough.
“The start of the season cost us some injuries, some long-term and we weren’t able to really form the team.
“But we got there after Christmas, we were 10 not lost and it still wasn’t good enough.
“It just shows how hard it is, but it’s a fair reward for the rest of the teams. It just shows how strong they are. Maybe it’s the third time, maybe the second.”
