The technician of Everton, Sean Dychesays it faces an early-season selection crisis, with only 14 recognized first-team players available for Saturday’s Premier League trip to Tottenham Hotspur.
Despite having around £70m (€90m) from the sales of Amadou Onana, Lewis Dobbin and Ben Godfrey, Dyche said Everton may also have to consider offers for striker Dominic Calvert -Lewin. “Unfortunately, we are at the limit,” he told reporters Thursday. “At the moment we have about 14 recognized players left in the first team, that’s not ideal.”
Injuries have hit the squad hard, but Everton, who have spent around £40m on new signings, do not have the funds to bring in new faces. “We don’t have much money to correct the situation,” Dyche added. “We just work with the players and hope they get back to full fitness and then stay.”
Everton may also have to make a big decision on Calvert-Lewin should a big offer come in. “Any offer of a certain level would have to be analyzed by the club. We are in a better position because of the exchange of players and how much we have lowered wages, but that is not resolved,” said Dyche.
Everton managed to escape relegation last season despite being deducted points twice for breaching the Premier League’s Profitability and Sustainability Rules (PSR). Everton’s takeover deal with prospective owner 777 Partners expired in June, while the Friedkin Group abandoned plans to buy a majority stake in the club last month.
Everton were beaten 3-0 at home by Brighton & Hove Albion in their first Premier League match.
