A “huge dust explosion” in a company’s drying system led to a fire and a call for the fire brigade on Thursday, Abtenau emergency services reported. The fire was extinguished after six hours. But the alarm was raised again in the evening.
Shortly before noon, Florianijüngers rushed to the fire in a woodworking company in the Schratten industrial estate in Abentau. Thick smoke spread across the company premises. According to the fire department’s report, two respiratory protection teams immediately began fighting the fire. “The fire, caused by a massive dust explosion in the drying system, was brought under control relatively quickly.” However, the fire spread to other parts of the company, such as the filter system.
Around 16:30 the fire was under control. Three hours later the fire department checked the fire again and the emergency services discovered new embers. Smoke spread again. After smoke was detected coming from the 28 meter high silo, a fire alarm followed again. After two hours the remaining embers could also be extinguished. According to the fire department, major damage has been caused. A fire investigator from the police is investigating the cause of the fire.
