Rain could turn the F1 Dutch GP grid upside down and complicate things

Date:

The battle at the top is exciting and even, with different cars with options for victory as seen in the last races, with McLaren superior, Verstappen with a Red Bull with problems that only he can tame, and the resurrection mercedes. And in that battle, at Zandvoortmany more factors are added that complicate everything: the difficulty of the track, of the hands, of the pure pilot, with some pronounced banks with different lines, and above all: the weather. Qualifying will be crazy this Saturday.

Rain, wind and cold have warned all members of the F1 paddock this Thursday night, and especially this Friday morning. And it’s something that is expected to happen again this Saturday.

For Saturday’s classification, forecasts indicate that there will be a 30% chance of rain for the start of the session against the clock, increasing to 70% during the race. Conditions may change and there may be room for surprises.

Furthermore, we must add to this the strong wind this Friday, which could mean a drastic change in weather compared to Saturday if the wind reduces in qualifying. That complicates everything, as the data collected by the teams this Friday won’t be of much use if the conditions for Saturday change.

Running blind?

And above all, it can cause teams to come to the race blind on Sunday, not knowing how their car will perform on dry asphalt on a clear and warmer day. That will depend on whether Free Practice 2 is not rained out this Friday afternoon, as the forecasts indicate.

The sun is expected on Sunday and the uncertainty could be greater if there are cars out of position due to the chaos that can arise in a classification that can be wet and on a track where it is difficult to overtake.
