Exactly four weeks after an armed bank robbery in Reichenau in Innsbruck, the police were able to track down and arrest a suspect. I am believed to be a 68-year-old local man. The ‘robber grandpa’ fled on an e-scooter.
The bank robbery at the Sparkasse branch took place on July 26. Shortly after 8:00 a.m., a masked perpetrator, armed with a silver pistol, marched into the bank and demanded cash in English. After an employee handed the money to the robber, he fled on an e-scooter.
An immediate alarm search – the police helicopter also circled above the entire city area – was unsuccessful.
Investigation and clues led to Senior
On Friday, exactly four weeks after the attack, the police announced the arrest of a suspect. According to investigators from the National Criminal Investigation Department, it is a 68-year-old local man.
The alleged perpetrator was arrested in his apartment in Innsbruck. “The investigation measures and the trace analysis carried out led to the 68-year-old,” the investigators continued.
Taken to prison
However, the suspect wants nothing to do with the attack. “He did not confess.” The man was taken to Innsbruck prison on the orders of the public prosecutor.
