Surprisingly, a care facility in Linz is about to collapse. The boss no longer understands the world: everything is old, but good. The background was a “revenge act” and the examiner had come at an “unfavorable time”.
Monika Gyarmati’s mobile phone (50) has been ringing for days. Concerned parents call the chairman of the association that manages the “Brüderchen und Schwesterchen” childcare in Bahrgasse in Linz. They hope for good news.
As reported, the kindergarten and two crèches there (33 children in total) must close on May 26 at short notice. The country would have witnessed hygienic and pedagogical shortcomings last year. The stumbling block would have been an offended employee. “I fired her and she complained,” the 50-year-old sighed at a local inspection “Krone” on Wednesday. And further: “The examiners came immediately after the snack. Of course there are crumbs lying around and there was also Lulu in the pot. That was a bad time.’ Also a dusty shelf and urine on the toilet seat would have been criticized.
After the inspection, she cleaned everything together with employees. They even bought a robot to wipe and disinfect. “We clean several times a day anyway. Other facilities only clean in the evenings,” says Gyarmati.
At a subsequent appointment, the inspectors would no longer criticize hygiene, but one problem remained: an estimated renovation of 130,000 euros would be necessary. “I’ve fought like a lioness for my little kids, but how are we supposed to pay for it?” Gyarmati almost gave up. She took over the facility almost 17 years ago. The more than 35 years old furniture and floors are still there. “Old, but good,” says the boss.
Gyarmati has offered everything to various operators for a symbolic euro in an emergency, but no commitment has yet been made. “I think it’s important that children and employees have a place to stay.” Some already have a place, about 20 children not yet.
