Gerald Baticleformer assistant Thierry Henrysucceed him as coach of the Under-23s, the French Football Federation (FFF) announced on Friday. “It is important to choose a coach who will be a continuation of the work done by Thierry Henry at the head of the Bleuets”, said the Olympic silver medalists, FFF president Philippe Diallo in a statement.
Gérald Baticle, 54, has a contract until July 2025. The former Auxerre striker, among other clubs, was assistant coach at Olympique Lyonnais from 2011 to 2021 before trying his luck as number 1 coach at Angers (2021-2022 ).
Thierry Henry announced on Monday that he has decided to leave the France Espoirs team, ten days after reaching the final of the 2024 Olympic Games and a year after taking the reins with the aim of securing an Olympic medal.
