This is how La Vuelta’s general classification looks, with O’Connor a firm leader

Date:

The general classification of the Vuelta a España underwent minor changes after the seventh stage, but its basic pattern did not change. Ben O’Connor remains firmly the leader of the race after the coup delivered the previous day with his sixth stage victory.

The Australian tackled his first day with the red jersey on a day where the final circuit in Córdoba and the 14% climb to Alto allowed for plenty of movement in the main group. Among them, an attack by Primoz Roglic managed to shave a few seconds off him with a bonus, albeit with a reduced minimum time for the general classification.

So, O’Connor maintained a wide gap heading into the weekend. However, in a day with many cuts, there are changes in the fight for the podium. The German Florian Lipowitzwho was fourth before today, gave up some precious seconds that allowed him to be today Enric Mas which is one place away from the podium. Also Cristian Rodríguez getting the position of fifth.
