Marc Soler (UAE) admitted that he “made a mistake” in today’s stage ending in Baiona when he allowed winner Wout van Aert (Visma lease a bike) to escape the five-man breakaway in which they were both part.
“I made a mistake or I don’t know how to say it. Then on the climb I went well but on the descent I couldn’t do it,” said the Catalan, regretting not having reached the finish line with the Belgian champion.
“It was a shame. Then we had to finish at the finish but at least have been there” in the sprint with the leader of Regularity and now also of the Mountain.
On the other hand, Soler noted how “very difficult” the day was, with the whole stage being “very fast” in the fight to get into the final breakaway.
“It’s time to fight, there’s still a lot left and we have to keep going,” said Soler, resigned, but also encouraged for what’s to come.
