Tsitsipas accompanied Medvedev and Kyrgios to the Mallorca ATP lawn

Date:

Greek tennis player Stefanos Tsitsipas, number six in the world, has accepted the invitation of the organizers of the ATP 250 Mallorca Championships which starts this Saturday and will be joined by Russian Daniil Medvedev and Australian Nick Kyrgios in the poster of the great favorites in the title of the only natural grass tournament contested in Spain.

Tsitsipas, sixth in the ATP ranking, will compete in singles and doubles, as confirmed by the organization of the Balearic tournament to be held on the tracks of the Mallorca Country Club in Santa Ponça (Calviá) and will distribute 951,745 euros in prizes.

Six players from the ‘top 20’ will compete on the Mallorca turf, since last year’s Wimbledon semifinalists, Pole Hubert Hurkacz (ATP 12) and Canadian Denis Shapovalov (ATP 15th), as well as Spaniards Pablo Carreño Busta (ATP 19th) and Roberto Bautista Agut (ATP 20th) have also confirmed their participation.

Nick Kyrgios, another of the favorites, will also join the proposal, as will veteran Feliciano López, who received an invitation to the main draw. Tsitsipas has won eight ATP tournaments (including the 2019 ATP Finals in London and the Monte Carlo Masters 1000 tournament in 2021 and 2022) and has already set several records in his young career.

Reaching the final of the French Open in 2021, he was the first Greek to reach that rank in a Grand Slam.

Furthermore, at just 22 years old at Roland Garros 2021, he is also the youngest player to reach the final of one of four Grand Slam tournaments since Andy Murray 2010 at the Australian Open in Melbourne.

Toni Nadal, director of the Mallorca Championships, Rafa Nadal’s uncle and former coach, expressed his pleasure at having the Greek tennis player in the tournament. We have a great lineup this year, led by Daniil Medvedev, the current number one in the world. Lawn tennis at the highest level and an exciting tournament are guaranteed ”, Toni Nadal remarked.
