Ayoze Pérez acknowledged that the Spanish team’s goalless draw in Belgrade against Serbia, on the first day of the soccer Nations League, was “a bit tasteless,” and bemoaned the goallessness.
“I have played many times up front, this is not a surprise for me. It was a complicated match, they used their weapons as best as possible, they closed in, they were aggressive and they looked for the counter,” Ayoze analyzed in the mixed zone.
“The tie is not well known, we came for three points and they played their game, on the counterattack. The balance is that we had chances to score and open the game but there are days when luck is not on your side and the ball didn’t go in,” he added.
Ayoze thanked the “coach’s trust” to become a starter and forget the injury sustained in the Euro Cup. “I’m disappointed with the result but I’m happy with the confidence to continue being part of the national team. The best is yet to come.”
“You have to adapt to the fact that your rivals are close, there are no excuses. There is the potential to create chances like we did and we were clear. Having points is a different game because they have to stretch and go on the attack to give us chances to win the game,” he said.
