Alex Morgan The legendary United States national team forward announced Thursday his retirement from professional soccer and will play his final game this Sunday with his San Diego Wave in the NWSL.
Morgan, 35 years old, he is a double world champion in the American team, where he scored 123 goals and provided 53 assists.
Wave forward is one of the great protagonists of the golden cycle of the United States with Megan Rapinoe who retired from football in 2023.
“I grew up with this team, it’s more than football. It’s about friendship and the enormous respect and support between us, the work to drive global investment in women’s sport, and the key moments of success on and off the field,” Morgan said in statements published by the United States Soccer Federation.
“I am incredibly honored to represent this shield for 15 years,” he added.
Morgan played 22 matches in World Cups and was crowned champion in 2015 and 2019. He also won Olympic gold in London 2012.
The American announced this Thursday that she is pregnant and will be a mother for the second time.
His last game is this Sunday with the Wave against the North Carolina Courage.
