2-0: Spain, in the round of 16 with a standing ovation from the Cali public

Date:

A double of John Amezaga gave this Wednesday to the selection of Spain qualification in the round of 16 of U-20 Women’s World Cup by defeating Paraguay 2-0 on the second day of Group C. The match, in which La Roja outplayed its rivals, showed the high level of the current under-20 champions who won the applause of the spectators to Pascual Guerrero from Cali as a reward for good collective work. Levante player Erika González was injured and taken off on a stretcher.

With possession superiority from the start of the match and good touch football, the first goal came in the 20th minute thanks to an overflow on the left by Julia Hogado who crossed for Jone Amezaga to push him behind the cause defended by Araceli Leguizamón. Seventeen minutes later, Amezaga again took advantage of the authorization given to him by Lucía Corrales to extend the score and confirm his superiority.

For the second half, the Paraguayans looked for a tie against Spain, where some of their figures left the playing field at halftime, including Amezaga, so the effort of the Guaraní was recognized by the public but their drive was reduced as the minutes ticked by.

With the win and six points, Spain secured its place in the round of 16, while Paraguay continued the three it added on the first day against Morocco who lost to the United States. In the next and final match in the group, Spain will face Morocco and Paraguay will face the United States in the same match.
