Tony Arbolino takes first Moto2 pole position ‘at home’

Date:

The Italian Tony Arbolino (Kalex) achieved first Moto2 pole position ‘at home’, for being fastest in qualifying for the San Marino Grand Prix at Misano Adriatico.

Arbolino achieved a better time, after the slipstream of his compatriot Celestino Vietti (Kalex), who came secondwith 1:35.229, just 11 thousandths of a second faster than his compatriot, with Japanese Ai Ogura (Boscoscuro), third.

The first classification has a prominent opponent, world leader Sergio García Dols (Boscoscuro), who will have to find his place in second place if he wants to maintain his chances of defending the championship lead against all his rivals.

But in that first classification there is a series of drivers that will be difficult to overcome, just like the Spaniards. Alonso Lopez (Boscoscuro), the Thai Somkiat Chantra (Kalex) or the South African Darryn Binder (Kalex).

Alonso López was the first leader with a record of 1:36.016while Sergio García Dols, As had happened several times in the morning session, his first fastest lap was canceled due to exceeding the circuit limits.

García Dols set the first valid time of 1:36.383 which placed him in seventh position, not enough to move to the second classificationwhich forced him to continue pushing to try to achieve his goal, after seeing up to four laps canceled due to exceeding layout limits.

In the last ‘time attack’ was the Czech Filip Salac was the first to better López’s record by running 1:35.950, as did the Dutchman Zonta Van de Goorbergalthough it didn’t take long for Alonso López to beat his rivals to set a 1:35.547 first and a 1:35.446 later, making his rivals harder to beat.

After Alonso López they finished the Dutch Bo Bendsneyder (Kalex), Filip Salac and the Australian Senna Agius (Kalex), while Sergio García Dols had to settle for tenth position, which would be twenty-fourth in the starting formation.

In the second classification, the fastest of the official rounds, the Spanish Aron Canet He took it in stride, letting all his rivals take to the track to ensure he could make his attacks on the fastest lap alone, with the aim that no one could follow his slipstream.

‘Manugas’ González (Kalex) was not so lucky, because, when he tried his first fastest lap, he crashed at the fourth turn and completely destroyed his rhythm and the possibilities of continuing on the track, while the Japanese. Ai Ogura He climbed to first position, but his time was almost beaten by Alonso López.

One lap later Ogura passed López by running 1:35.581, which didn’t last long, as Brazilian Diogo Moreira beat him by sixty thousandths of a second, 1:35.521, with Alonso López two tenths of a second behind.

‘Manugas’ González was able to get his mechanic to fix the damage with just over four minutes left in practice, forcing him to look for at least the qualifying time he didn’t have before.

So many Celestino Vietti as Tony Arbolino They tried because they were locals, but they fought for pole position until the final minutes, where they both set fast lap stages and it was Arbolino climbed to first place (1:35.229) with Vietti second by 11 thousandths of a second and Ogura third.

At the second starting line there will be Aron Canet -who starred in a fantastic save at turn five-, Diogo Moreira and Albert Arenas, with Joe Roberts, Alonso López and Manuel González in third, and Fermín Aldeguer, Filip Salac and Marcos Ramírez in fourth.

The fifth line is for Deniz Öncü, Jake Dixon and Bo Bendsneyder, with Senna Agius, Ayumu Sasaki and Dennis Foggia, sin time due to the fall he suffered in the classification, in sixth.
