The Czech Tennis Federation has announced the appointment of Tomas Berdych as the new Davis Cup captain being replaced Jaroslav Navratilonce the team’s participation in the group stage of the tournament Valencia.
The Czech team closed its presence in this edition as the last classified in Group B with three defeats. “Welcome to the team! The new captain of the Czech Davis Cup team is the two-time Davis Cup winner Tomáš Berdych. This was decided by the presidency after an agreement with Navratil,” announced the Tennis Federation of the Czech Republic in the social networks.
“Returned to the team in a new role,” Berdych himself announced on his X social network account.
Berdych is one of the legendary players of the Czech Republic. He debuted in 2003 with his country’s team and won the tournament two years in a row, in 2012 and 2013.
He is the player with the most victories in his country and the one who has won the most matches, both singles and doubles. He also played in the most qualifying rounds with the Czech team.
Berdych won 13 ATP titles and reached No. 4 as the best ranking in the world. The end of Wimbledon 2010, where he lost against Rafael Nadalis his best result of grand slam. So Czech tennis starts a new phase after its poor performance in Valencia where it was overtaken by Spain, Australia and France.
