The Governing Council of the University of Las Palmas de Gran Canaria (ULPGC) approved the awarding of new Medals to academies and institutions such as Professor Juan Ortegaa chemist who in 2023 was declared the adopted son of Gran Canaria, Unión Deportiva Las Palmas for their patronage.
This is a recognition of its “special relationship and importance to the island, in conjunction with the celebration of its 35th anniversary this year 2024”, as reported Monday by the ULPGC in a statement.
The new ULPGC Medals at this last Governing Council will be awarded at the opening ceremony of the 2024-2025 ULPGC course, such as that of Professor Juan Ortega Saavedra.
The rector of ULPGC, Lluís Serra, highlighted in the note that this year the University joins the celebration of the anniversary of various institutions “closely related to our University and our environment”.
Of those Unión Deportiva Las Palmas emphasized that it “fully understood its role and commitment to societydeveloping initiatives through its foundation”, such as grassroots football and the promotion of sports practice, acting in areas from child protection to social inclusion or eSports, in addition to programs such as DiSAFÍO, for “promote the inclusion of people with intellectual disabilities through sport”.
