Brighton and Nottingham Forest had to settle for a point after drawing (2-2) in a clash where both showed contrasting styles. A duel with a heated finish, and Gibbs-White was sent off along with Nuno and Fabián Hürzeler for their protests.
The Seagulls didn’t start the rivalry well. There was even a lack of tension and cohesion in their possessions, which greatly benefited Nottingham, who devoted themselves to what they loved most: stealing and running. And on top of that they found fault with Baleba, who was too gray and unconscious to knock Hudson-Odoi out. Wood took advantage of the point (13′).
This is not a duel of extreme occasions. Brighton, in particular, stiffened and struggled to find Mitoma, although as the minutes ticked by they managed to do so. The Hinshelwood lad lightened his load, coming in from the second line and scoring a great goal with a header (41′) that gave his teammates faith so, with a Japanese foul before the break, Welbeck scores a direct free kick, fixing the ball to the stick of Sels, who didn’t see it coming (45′).
A dynamic that didn’t change in the second half. Nottingham wanted to continue to punish any mistakes Brighton made on the ball and knew the chance would come. Hürzeler’s team suffered from some compromises and with a very advanced defense they fit in again. It was Sosa, who received the gift of a Gibbs-White (70′) that a few minutes went wrong to Welbeck and saw a clear second yellow that sent him to the locker room. And who knows how many games he had, because he went to the fourth referee to tell him everything, as did Nuno and Hürzeler, who also had to go to the locker room.
Nottingham had no choice but to close behind. Despite the lowness, he did not feel comfortable. Furthermore, if anyone is forgiven for finishing with a victory, Nuno’s team, who had it on a stoppage time counterattack. Sosa delivered a terrific ‘death’ pass to Hudson-Odoi, who was about to score into an empty net.
