At Red Bull, heads from high places keep jumping. There is no doubt that the big name to leave the team at the end of this season is Adrian Newy but one more name should be added to the list: Courtenay. Besides, The former strategy director of the Austrians has signed for McLarenthe main rival of those from Milton Keynes today.
Will will be sports director of Woking and will report to race director Randeep Singh. Courtenay has been part of Red Bull for 20 years and has been key to the energy drink team’s World Cups, such as Vettel’s first in 2010. The the move won’t end until 2026 but this is another important step in the F1 offices.
“We are delighted to welcome Will to McLaren. His experience, professionalism and passion for motor sport make him the perfect candidate to lead our F1 sporting function.. We are now entering an important phase in our journey as a team and we are confident that he will be a great addition to our strong leadership team as we strive to continue fighting for victories and championships,” commented Andrea Stella , manager of the British team.
This move comes at a crucial moment in the season where it has become clear that McLaren still lacks the wall experience to go head-to-head with Red Bull for the World Cup. This change of cards weakens the good rival to gain experience fighting at the top. We’ll have to wait to find out how Horner and company rearrange everything.
Courtenay exit This adds to what Adrian Newey and sporting director Jonathan Wheatley have already mentioned.who will be packing his bags for the new Audi project.
