The English League dominates global women’s football. The country has long been a benchmark to follow in terms of infrastructure and resources, large stadiums opening their doors, professionalization of competitions and money invested. Added to this is that every year audiences and spectators are growing with record-breaking numbers and million dollar deals with sponsors so this growth is unstoppable.
The latest data, after the premiere of the League last weekend, is really encouraging. The match between Arsenal and Manchester City at the Emirates Stadiumgathered 41,818 people in the Women’s Super League (WSL) to follow the debut of Mariona Caldentey and the future of great women’s football figures such as Miedema or Beth Mead.
It has also come out, as published yesterday by The Guardian newspaper, that Barclays will continue to be the title sponsor of the Women’s Super League and Women’s Championship (English 1st and 2nd divisions) thanks to a lucrative three-year deal worth more than £30 million.
The new agreement will provide -at least- between 9 and 10 million pounds per season, just for the title sponsor. And marketing commitments will take the total to around £45m.
