How many days has it been reported? Neymar may be close to returning to competition after a serious knee injury he suffered a year ago, Gabriel Jesuscoach of Al-HilaHe has closed the door on that possibility. The Portuguese coach assured that ‘Ney’ is not ready yet.
The Brazilian star signed for the Riyadh team in August 2023, but played just five games when he underwent surgery after tearing the meniscus and anterior cruciate ligament (ACL) in his left knee while on international duty in October. After Neymar, 32, returned to training in July, speculation grew that he was imminent, but Jorge Jesus played down expectations in a post-match press conference.
“Neymar is an important player for Al-Hilal and the league in general,” Jesus, who led Al-Hilal to a 19th league title in May, said on Tuesday. “However, I cannot determine the date of his return, we will review the situation in January.”
Neymar could be registered by Al-Hilal in January for the second half of the Saudi Pro League (SPL) season. SPL teams can register a maximum of eight foreign players under the age of 21. Neymar’s place in the squad for the first half of the league has been assigned to Marcos Leonardo, who was signed from Benfica in early September.
Once recovered, Neymar, whose two-year contract expires next August, will, however, be able to play in Al-Hilal’s current AFC Champions League. The League Elite campaign as a continental competition has no restrictions on the number of foreign players allowed.
