The young Swiss cyclist Muriel Furrer18, is in “critical” condition after suffering a serious fall during Thursday’s World Championship junior road race in Zurich, the International Cycling Union (UCI) reported.
“Muriel Furrer was taken to hospital in a rescue helicopter. She suffered serious head injuries and is in critical condition,” announced the UCI, which expressed itself as “deeply concerned” by the statement.
“So far nothing has been proven about the course of the accident. Investigations by the competent authorities are ongoing,” added the world cycling governing body.
The race was held on Thursday morning on a road wet by the steady downpour that fell in Zurich.
