The drinking water in Klagenfurt has been contaminated with fecal bacteria since at least last Wednesday. After flushing the water pipe network and intensive sampling, the first district, Wölfnitz, was reopened on Thursday, the city’s health authority said.
For the rest of the city of Klagenfurt, the advice remains for the time being to boil tap water before consumption.
Danger!
Because pipes cross each other in the area around Wölfnitz, tap water consumption for some companies has not yet been approved. The Stadtwerke Klagenfurt indicates in detail on its homepage which residential areas are specifically free from contamination and where the precautionary warning from the health authorities remains in force.

With the flushing of the water pipe network to the west, additional areas of the city where bacteria counts were lowest will now be successively tested and released if the results are negative.
