A record-breaking Bastianini leads the Ducati GP24 celebration

Date:

Bastianini is on a roll. The Italian driver arrived at the Indonesian GP after winning at Misano in a fantastic duel against Jorge Martín and the Italian closed the first day in Indonesia at the top of the time table. And not only that, but He achieved this by breaking Mandalika’s track record with an amazing 1:29.630.

The Training This is a celebration for the Ducati GP24 and the proof of this is that the four occupy the first four places. Martín was the closest, staying 40 thousandths away. Morbidelli closed the TOP3 ahead of Bagnaia, who did not wake up until the last. The four are separated by only 82 thousandths. Less than nothing.

The session started with Pedro Acosta falling in turn 1 without serious consequences and a fantastic save from Marc Márquez. The image we are used to in Honda and that is more often in Ducati. For the times, Morbidelli continued his excellent pace and set the tone in the first 20 minutes with a 1:30.673

It was certainly Acosta and Marc Márquez who managed to reach the halfway point of the session as the two fastest, both running 1:30.4. But we still have to reach the moment of truth with the whole grid with the new rubber to find enough time to go directly to Q2.

From record to record

When it was time to install the new rubber, the first to start destroying the clock was Jorge Martín. In his second attempt with the hard front and soft rear rubber, the World Championship leader dropped the time to 1:29.6. It beat the previous record by more than three tenths and sent a serious warning to the rest of the grid.

But that’s when Enea Bastianini reacted. The Italian from the official team reduced the time of the one from San Sebastián de los Reyes by 40 thousandths thanks to his 1:29.630. The best lap given to Mandalika helps him to dominate the first day of activity in Indonesian lands.

Morbidelli, who was first in the morning, finished third. For his part, Pecco Bagnaia was hidden all day working on the rhythm to make the leap in quality in the last minutes. The world champion finished fourth, just 82 thousandths off the best time. Bezzecchi closes the TOP5.

Márquez, a bit behind

This Friday, Marc was unable to match the leaders of the World Championship and finished seventh, just two and a half tenths off the best time. Equality is maximum but GP23 seems to be a step behind. In front of him is a great Quartararo, who played a very good role in Misano with the Yamha.

Acosta, DiGiannantonio and Viñales closed out the TOP10 and were the last to go directly to Q2 for Saturday’s classification.

Tough day for Aleix Espargaró

A day to forget was Aleix Espargaró. The Catalan crashed twice at turn 16 and was unable to put together a good lap and had to go through Q1 after finishing 15th. There he would meet Álex Márquez, who closed the time table when he fell on his fast lap.

Other important names like Brad Binder or Jack Miller also need to make the first cut if they want to fight for the pole.
