The Belarusian Aryna Sabalenka, top seed in the China Open, definitely defeated the American Ashlyn Krueger this Monday by 6-2 and 6-2, thus advancing to the round of 16 of the Chinese tournament.
The match, played on the Lotus secondary court, was settled in one hour and 14 minutes, with Sabalenka showing her mastery from the first moment.
The Belarusian managed five breaks throughout the matchwhile Krueger could only convert one.
In the first set, Sabalenka dominated by breaking Krueger’s serve in the first game and consolidating her advantage until taking the set 6-2.
The Belarusian tennis player showed great stability on the servewho won most of the points on his first serve.
The second set maintained the Belarusian’s dominance, taking advantage of her strength the rest of the way to close out the set with another 6-2.
Krueger, despite her best efforts, failed to hold serve under constant pressure from Sabalenka.
The Belarusian tennis player, number 2 in the world ranking, showed a solid game with two straight serves and great effectiveness on breaking pointswhile Krueger committed three double faults and won more than half the points on his first serve.
The Belarusian will face Madison Keys in the round of 16 (N.24), who defeated the Brazilian Beatriz Haddad Maia (n.12) this Monday by 6-3 and 6-3.
Sabalenka thus joins Americans Jessica Pegula and Coco Gauff in the round of 16with other seeds such as Italian Jasmine Paolini and Chinese Zheng Qinwen hoping to reach the next stage of the tournament.
The current champion and world number one, Iga Swiatek of Poland, is not participating in this year’s edition of the tournament.
