The women’s group Tigers lost this Thursday 3-1 Alajuelense Costa Rican and qualified for the semifinals of Champions Cup W of Concacaf. Portuguese Ana Dias, Maricarmen Reyes and Anika Rodríguez sealed the team classification led by Spanish coach Milagros Martínez Sofía Varela who scored for the visitors.
The Costa Rican formation was better in the first 25 minutes until Varela appeared with a left-footed goal. Alajuelense assimilated the blow, rearranged its lines and in the 33rd minute equalized with a header from Días. Amazon came out with advanced lines in the second half. They soon roamed the area and a goal from Reyes reflected after Spain’s Jenni Hermoso’s pass in the 61st minute and three minutes later, a right-handed shot from Anika Rodríguez sealed the match.
The Tigres added their third win in three outings and reached nine points expecting their passage to the semifinals. The Mexican team is followed by Gotham FC with seven points, Monterrey (4), Alajuelense (3) and the Jamaican Frazsiers, who have lost their four games.
On the last day of the group stage, on October 16, Tigres will visit Gotham and a day later, Monterrey will host Alajuelense.
