Coco Gauff was crowned in Beijing and added her second WTA 1000 title

The American tennis player Coco Gauff was announced this Sunday China Open champion after defeating the Czech Karolina Muchova (n.49) by 6-1 and 6-3who achieved her second title in a WTA 1000 category tournament after Cincinnati in 2023.

The match against Muchova, who was also her opponent in the final in Cincinnati, lasted one hour and 16 minutes on a Diamond court, the centerpiece of the Beijing tennis complex, packed with local fans.

Gauff showed stability both on serve and off, making the difference with 6 aces and great effectiveness on his first serve. In the first set, Gauff dominated from the start, breaking Muchova’s serve on two consecutive occasions to take a 3-0 lead. The American maintained the advantage with a strong return game, closing out the set 6-1 after taking advantage of her third set point.

The Czech tennis player, the lowest-ranked player to reach the final in Beijing, struggled to return Gauff’s first serve, managing to win just four of his 22 returns.

The second set was more balanced, with Muchova starting aggressively and taking a 0-2 lead after Gauff broke her serve. However, the American reacted quickly, getting the break back and going up 2-2. From there, the American imposed her speed, breaking Muchova’s serve twice to seal the set 6-3 and be crowned champion.

With this success, Gauffeliminating Spaniard Paula Badosa in the semifinals, adding her second WTA 1000 title and becoming youngest player to win two titles in this category since the format was introduced in 2009.

For her part, Czech Muchova, who eliminated Spaniard Cristina Bucsa in the round of 16, bid farewell to the tournament as the second Czech player to reach the China Open final, after Petra Kvitova in 2014, who lost against the Russian Maria Sharapova.
