Those detained in Singapore, investigated for showing without permission

Date:

The Valencian couple jailed in Singapore are being investigated for participating in a public meeting and cooperating with authorities, according to The Straits Times, one of the leading newspapers in the Asian city-state, and other media outlets.

The information in this newspaper states that the investigation focuses on an alleged crime of participation in a public meeting, which is explained as a meeting or demonstration without prior notice or permission to show support or opposition to opinions or action by a third party or to give publicity to a campaign, and mentions the ‘Public Order Act 2009’, the code under which the couple is being investigated, which may violate section 2 of article 16.

According to the online version of the Singapore Government’s page about the ‘Public Order Act’, which was updated on October 9 of this year, this law states that the maximum penalty that Spaniards can expect is 3,000 Singapore dollars.

Thus, this law emphasizes that “every person” who participates in a public meeting or demonstration (“public meeting or public procession”) will be fined if such meeting is authorized or if this demonstration is held in a time, day or place. which is different from what is called.

Also, the fine of 3,000 dollars can be up to 5,000, according to the law, in case a person who is guilty repeats this type of demonstration, which, according to the standard, requires a specific permit at the time where two or more . people go around “to show support or opposition to the opinions or actions of any person, group of people or any government” or “to express a cause or campaign”, which would be the case of the Spanish couple.

Also this Wednesday, the family of two Valencia fans who were detained in Singapore after protesting against the management of Valencia CF by local businessman Peter Lim as Valencia’s largest shareholder asked for “discretion” to resolve their situation as soon as possible and there are minors.

This is a couple who, after getting married on September 28 in Valencia, traveled to Singapore a few days later. From this country, Dani C. posted a series of photos and messages on social networks in emblematic places and in front of a Lim property with a flag with the motto ‘Lim Out’, if where a good part of the club’s fans have opposed the investor’s management for many years.

In addition, he also posted a video where he can be seen pasting a small sticker on a door that also appears to belong to the businessman, an action that seems to have triggered a police investigation.

When they were both leaving Singapore for Bali on Friday, they were sent back to their hotel, where police confiscated their passports. Since then, they have contacted the Spanish Embassy in this country and are waiting for the resolution of the open investigation, a period during which they can move across the country but not leave it.
