Carlos Alcaraz will play one last game with Rafael Nadalin semi-finals of the Riyadh exhibition tournament, the Six Kings Slamafter defeating the Dane Holger Rune, and a month before the final farewell of the winner of twenty-two Grand Slams, in the Davis Cup Finals.
“I watched Rafa’s matches since I started playing tennis and I paid attention to him. I grew up with him and he was my idol. He still is. Too bad he will retire from tennis. “He is an important person in my life and in my career,” said the Murcian tennis player after his victory in Riyadh.
“Nadal is one of the reasons why I want to be a tennis player. It’s hard for everyone that he’s retiring now,” added Alcaraz, world number two, on the court of the exhibition match.
“I don’t know if it’s a privilege to play with him again or if it will be complicated for me, but I’ll try to enjoy sharing the court with him. It’s difficult for everyone,” acknowledged Alcaraz, who shared moments and conversations with Spanish in Riyadh hotel.
“I want to play good tennis, I will try to play at the same level as I do, I will do it without fear. I’m starting my career, so for now I have to stick with Rafa’s right, although I’m very happy with mine. “We will see at the end of my career which was better,” said the world number two, winner this year at Wimbledon, Roland Garros and an Olympic silver medalist.
“It was a great year for me, a bit of a roller coaster, great tournaments that I won and, at the same time, others where I didn’t play well,” Carlos Alcaraz assumed.
