UEFA has slapped the Romanian Football Federation (RFR) with two fines, 22,500 and 30,000 euros, for “inappropriate and racist messages” chanted by the Balkan nation’s match fans Lithuania argued on September 9, the European body reported.
The fine of 22,500 euros, imposed by UEFA Control, Ethics and Disciplinary Committee, punished “inappropriate messages at a sporting event” recorded in the Nations League match where Romania won against Lithuania (3-1).
Furthermore, because of “racist fan behavior”, The Romanian federation will have to pay another 30,000 euros and enforce a partial closure, to 3,000 spectators, of the stadium where the team will play its next international match.
The Romanian team will play its two remaining matches in the group stage of the Nations League against Kosovo (November 15) and Cyprus (November 18) at the “Arena Nationala” stadium in Bucharest. Romania currently leads group C2, which it shares with Lithuania, Cyprus and Kosovo, without dropping a point, with three wins.
