“On this Great Cross We want to recognize and thank you for your work for the full equality of people with disabilities.also in the field of sports,” said the minister’s spokesperson, Pilar Alegría, who is also the minister of Education, Vocational Training and Sports. “During these twenty years, 217 medals have been won, the last 40 in the Games Paris,” he emphasized.
Carballeda (Pontevedra, 1959) was elected president of the Paralympic Committee in 2004. During the last Paris Games he announced that he would not run for re-election and that he would support the election of Alberto Duranuntil now vice president. The Committee will hold its general meeting on Thursday and Durán will be the sole candidate to seize the presidency.
Once the president has been proclaimed, Durán must propose the appointment of the first, second and third vice presidents, the general secretary and the treasurer, which will be submitted to the vote of the members of the assembly. The other members of the Executive Committee will also be appointed, two freely appointed by the president and those chosen by the federations: one member representing the Single-Sport Paralympic Federations and another member representing the Non-Paralympic Federations.
