Fernando Alonso plans to retire in 2009 with McLaren!

Date:

Fernando Alonso will celebrate 400 Grand Prix at the Mexican GPor that will be held next weekend at the Autódromo de los Hermanos Rodríguez. This is a racing figure that no one in history can boast. However, notes that even the Asturian himself could not imagine reaching.

“When I was champion in 2006 and joined McLaren I had a three-year contract, which in my mind seemed like a very long contract, and I’m 99% sure that that 2009 campaign will be my last in Formula 1. I have fulfilled my big dream by winning the championship twice. He had overcome the wildest dreams he had ever had. I thought what else can I do here? I signed for McLaren with the hope of winning more championships and races but after F1 there are more things in life. “I thought I would have a family and do normal things, have normal days,” he explained on the F1 podcast ‘Beyond the Grid’.”

The Spaniard also explained in this interview that there were moments that He did not enjoy Formula 1, on and off the track because of the political touch surrounding the Great Circus.. For this reason he retired for a while in 2018. But his love for this sport brought him back in 2021 and thanks to these times he reached four hundred races.

“Yes, it’s crazy to complete 400 Grand Prix even though the calendar is long now and you accumulate 24 races every year. Considering I’ve been out for two years, “It’s a big number and it reflects the passion I have for this sport.”

Newey’s arrival

Adrian Newey who is for many the best engineer in the history of Formula 1, will join Aston Martin in 2025 and its influence will come to the design of the 2026 car, year where there is a change in regulations where all teams start from scratch. Working with Newey is something that makes Alonso wonder if he can extend his career even further. It should be noted that Fernando’s contract is at least until 2026, that is, until 45 years old. For this reason, he does not rule out continuing with Aston Martin as an unofficial driver.

“I’d be lying if I told you I didn’t think about it because we entered into the personal adventure of working with a talent like Newey. But I’m not too afraid to work with and see Aston Martin win even without being behind the wheel. “If we win when I’m not driving, I’ll enjoy it quite a bit too.”
