Colbrelli, discharged from Padua Cardiac Clinic

Sonny Colbrelli has been discharged from the Cardiology Clinic of the University of Paduawhere he entered on Saturday March 26 after being resuscitated and admitted to Barcelona. Colbrelli collapsed after crossing the finish line of stage 1 of Return to Catalonia two weeks ago. He was moved there to be strictly followed by doctors from his country.

The cyclist underwent a clinical cardiovascular examination coordinated by the Professor Domenico Corradodirector of the Genetic Cardiomyopathy and Sports Cardiology Unit of the Azienda Ospedaliera de la Università di Padova, an Italian center of excellence for the diagnosis and treatment of arrhythmogenic heart muscle diseases.

Based on the results of the clinical examination and with the consent of the medical staff of the team, Sonny Colbrelli successfully underwent implantation intervention of a subcutaneous defibrillator (ICD)an operation performed on Thursday.

Professor Domenico Corrado explained the procedure under which the Bahrain Victorious rider was subjected. “In Padua, the athlete underwent a comprehensive clinical, genetic and imaging examination to determine the cause of the arrhythmia that led to cardiac arrest and the most appropriate therapy. The decision to implant a life-saving device was shared by Colbrelli, who received a subcutaneous ICD. The device works to correct the heart rhythm as needed in severe cases“, counted.

Sonny Colbrelli will continue the rehabilitation at the home to ensure privacy and peace of mind for him and his family.
