Carlos Alcarazwho is in Paris to compete in the Masters 1,000 in the French capital, will not attend the Ballon d’Or gala and assured that “both Rodri and Vinicius deserve it.”
“It looks like Vinicius will win, now it looks like it will be Rodri. They’re both great and they deserve the great year they’ve had. “I can agree with both of them and whoever wins, I am very happy,” said the world number 2.
Alcaraz said he will not attend the gala which will take place tonight at the Chatelet theater, but he plans to follow it up on television.
“I would have liked to go, but I wasn’t invited either.. Also, I’m here for the tournament and tomorrow I have a match (against Chilean Nicoás Jarry or Italian Lorenzo Sonego),” he said.
Vinicius is the strong favorite to win the award and Real Madrid have prepared a large delegation to go to Paris. Among them, Florentino Pérez, Ancelotti, Vinicius, Valverde and Lunin, they are all candidates to win the awards tonight. Vinicius would have been the first to say he wasn’t going to Paris and his teammates and club backed him and canceled the trip.
The anger within Real Madrid over the decision not to give Vinicius the Ballon d’Or was intense. “If the criteria of the award did not declare Vinicius the winner, the same criteria should have declared Carvajal the winner. Since this did not happen, it is clear that the Ballon d’Or and UEFA do not respect Real Madrid. And Real Madrid is not where it is not respected“, they said from the white club.
Real Madrid prepared the charter to travel to Paris at 3:00 pm, but they canceled it an hour before they learned that Vinicius would not win. So, the Real Madrid expedition and family members stayed in Madrid, a total of about 50 people.
Due to the decision of the Ballon d’Or organization, Vinicius and Real Madrid decided not to go to Paris. Rodri is currently the big favorite to win the Ballon d’Or.
