An Italian cleaning lady accidentally threw away an old mattress containing jewelry and cash worth around 50,000 euros.
According to a report in the daily newspaper “Tribuna di Treviso”, the domestic worker from the northern Italian city of Montebelluna was convinced that the significantly worn mattress could only be bulky waste. So the woman took them from the garage of the owner, a retiree, to the dump.

What she didn’t know: the old lady had been hoarding cash, family jewels and credit cards as a ‘plaything for the thirst’.
According to the report, the owner didn’t notice the mattress was missing until a few hours later. Her daughter immediately called the police, who left for the landfill together with the local environmental department. Initially the search was unsuccessful, but after an hour the mattress was found – along with cash, credit cards and jewelry.
