Due to various shortcomings, the study of medicine at the private Sigmund Freund University in Vienna was about to stop. The master should actually be a thing of the past now, the bachelor could stay.
Too few staff, too little laboratory space, no own clinic: In September, the experts from the responsible quality assurance agency (AQ Austria) listed in detail what they did not like about a medical study at the private Sigmund Freud University in the 2nd district. And they threatened the university with the revocation of the teaching license – we reported.
The university then had time to come up with ideas for improvement. The decision-making meeting of AQ Austria took place last week. The verdict is now in. And officially it’s guarded like nuclear missile launch codes.
Both the university itself, the Ministry of Science and the AQ remain silent because the decision is not yet legally valid. The “Krone” learned from insider circles: the AQ gave its fundamental “yes” to continue and complete its studies. But at what level? It seems that the master is history, the bachelor should remain. But graduates can do little with a bachelor’s degree.
If they want to become a doctor, they must transfer to a state university. This is anything but simple. This does not bode well for patient care in Vienna. The SFU doctors work in the community hospitals. And they are highly valued, according to the city of Vienna. The expensive private university has other courses of study (psychology, law). Like the university as a whole, they must maintain the license.
