“Why would anyone do something like that with a velvet paw?” This is the question kind-hearted people are asking themselves after a pet was shot in Burgenland. The owner is very concerned about her seriously injured cat “Jackson”. The matter has been reported and an investigation is now underway.
Waltraud K. from Rohrbach an der Teich in the Oberwart district went through anxious moments. She was working around the house during the day when she suddenly heard cat noises that sounded like painful wails and a desperate cry for help.
Injured tomcat discovered
“It was terrible. I was immediately very worried,” says the Burgenlander, who has a heart for velvet paws. Several cats live in her household. When she went outside to check if everything went into the open stable across the street, Waltraud K. discovered her cat.
Need help quickly
“Our ‘Jackson’ was completely scared,” the owner remembers. The tomcat was crouched on a wooden support under the roof. He could only stagger slowly to a place where the landlady gently picked him up. The seriously injured four-legged friend then went straight to the small animal clinic of veterinarian Thomas Neudecker in Oberwart.
Fracture of bones
Only in practice could the full extent of the wound become clear. “The ten-year-old cat was not only in severe pain, but also showed symptoms of lameness,” was the first impression.
The subsequent X-ray examination revealed a fracture in the bones above the leg, which was clearly caused by a gunshot wound. “The cat was treated with antibiotics and painkillers,” the vet’s letter states.
“Why?”
The rescued cat recovered slowly from the life-threatening efforts. His fate gives the owner a headache. Before them, the question arises as to who is capable of such an act: “Why would you use a weapon to inflict excruciating pain on a harmless pet or possibly even kill it?” A report has been filed with the police.
