In Russia, a Wagner mercenary has confessed to a double murder. It turned out that his victims were also fighters from Wagner’s private army. And that’s exactly what their downfall has apparently become…
Yaroslav Shekhovtsov, a 25-year-old Kyrgyz citizen, is suspected of the murder of two Wagner mercenaries in Voronezh Oblast. The Telegram channels Baza, Astra and Ostoroschno_nowosti write about it. According to media reports, two dead men in military uniforms were found on July 6 near the highway that runs from the Russian city of Voronezh to the Ukrainian city of Luhansk. Next to them was a car with guns in it. Experts determined that the men had been killed by gunfire.
During interrogation, Shekhovtsov stated that he belonged to the Wagner mercenary group and confessed to the murder of two mercenaries from his own ranks. The motive: they had refused to participate in Wagner boss Yevgeny Prigozhin’s “March of Justice” and he had eliminated them “on principle”.
“March of Justice” on Moscow
At the end of June, the power struggle between the Russian mercenary leader Prigozhin and the Russian military leadership escalated. Prigozhin’s men invaded Russia from Ukraine with the aim of overthrowing the military leadership in Moscow. After about 24 hours of rebellion, Prigozhin took a surprising turn and ordered his mercenaries to return to their camps. This was preceded by an agreement with the Russian leadership, brokered by Belarus.
Ex-mercenaries scare the village
Returning Wagner fighters repeatedly invade their homeland. Particular attention was drawn to a case in which a former mercenary terrified an entire Russian village. Constantly drunk, he walked through the village with a pitchfork and an ax shouting, “I’ll kill everyone, I’ll slaughter the whole family.” This went on until he finally killed an old woman – with a knife. At first they wanted to send him back to Ukraine, but that never happened: he is now in prison for murder.
