Former Somalia captain, Iqra Ismaill, said he has spoken to the Football Association (FA) and is ready to play in a tracksuit again after being banned from attending a match for not wearing shorts. Ismail said in an Instagram video last week that she had been playing in the Greater London Women’s Football League (GLWFL) for five years wearing tracksuit bottoms, but was not allowed to come on as a substitute on Sunday for the United Dragons.
On Wednesday, the FA said female players in all its competitions could wear clothing that conformed to their religious beliefs. “I have been in contact with senior members of the Middlesex County FA, they have been very supportive and are actively working to ensure that nothing happens again,” said the 24-year-old, who captained Somalia in 2019. “And delighted I have to say that, starting this weekend, I will be back on the field playing football in long pants.”
