The children of Maradona announced on Thursday the launch of a Maradona Foundation‘ to “honor the legacy” of Argentina’s soccer idol, and revealed some features of a future memorial in the tourist center of Buenos Aires, which hopes to receive a million visitors a year. “We want our father to be close to people’s love, and to grant the wish of everyone who wants to bring him flowers,” explained his daughter Dalma in reference to the recognition in a private presentation broadcast on YouTube.
He ‘Memorial M10’, scheduled to open in 2025, it is located on an esplanade in the center of the capital, in the tourist district of the old port of Puerto Madero, and not far from the presidency. With a covered area of 1,000 m2, the monument, designed as a “place of meeting, admiration and tribute”, will be able to welcome one million visitors a year, according to the site “m10memorial.com”.
Access is free for Argentines, but they can make a donation to the Foundation, which will allow them to have their photo placed on a “heritage wall” at the memorial. The Foundation, for its part, was born from the desire to “pay tribute to him, keep his legacy, keep his mark alive,” declared Dalma, visibly moved.
Its purpose, according to its website, is to promote, “with active community participation, sports or cultural projects that promote human development and national identity.” Led by Dalma, it will bring together Gianinna, Diego Junior, Jana and Diego Fernando, other children recognized by Maradona, from three different relationships.
