Carlos Sainz has no day at the Brazilian F1 GP. In the morning, in qualifying, he crashed into Q2 protections. He could start 13th but prefers to do it from the pit lane to install a new engine which could be good for Las Vegas.a circuit that can be favorable to Ferrari and where Carlos I can go for success. With that in mind he’ll be looking to turn the page after a day where he suffered through the race and hit the wall again.
“It was a bad Sunday, from qualifying to the race. Starting in the pit lane, we didn’t make much progress either, it was very difficult to overtake and there was very little visibility at the back. I made two mistakes (one in qualifying and another in the race) which is not perfect. I feel sorry for the whole team. At the same time, now and throughout the year, “The car is very difficult to drive in the wet and we need to understand why because it cost us a few races.”the Spaniard said in statements to ‘DAZN’ after his accident.
“New machine? That’s positive and we did it for that reason. Obviously, I would have preferred to start 13th and with all the ‘spray’ there was, knowing I could come out in the points. But we decided to sacrifice starting 13th by starting in the pit lane to try to benefit from that engine in the last three races. I hope he pays, if not, we’ll see.”he argued before explaining the reasons why he couldn’t make a difference in his car.
“It’s probably a combination of the characteristics of the car and the set-up. The fact that this year the car is very kind to the tires will definitely punish us in the rain. On the other hand, I think that certainly with the adjustments things could be done better for wet conditions. Overall this year there haven’t been any wet sessions where we’ve been really fast, so it’s something that needs to be checked. The last three races should be dry so it’s not something we should worry about,” he explained.
“It is clear that in Las Vegas we should have options but then the last two races were more McLaren tracks and here we saw that the McLaren in the dry was the fastest car. So we have to go with enthusiasm but being realistic,” He pointed to a Constructors’ World Championship where Ferrari still has options. McLaren lead with 593 points, 36 more than the Italians, with Red Bull on 544, 13 points behind the reds.
