Spanish boxer Yolber Bandomo settled for the silver medal at the Youth World Cup that ended this Sunday in Budva (Montenegro) by losing in the final (4-1) to Russian Ruslan Shikhmambetov in the under 80 kilo category.
Bandomo proposed an attacking fight to regain the size of the advantage, but the Tenerife native found himself with a good rival who, fresh, received him with straight hands, moving back impressively and crouching dangerously on his left body.
But the Spaniard’s pressure began to neutralize his opponent’s mobility and in the second half of the central assault there was hope. Perhaps it is not certain, because only one judge gave this injury to Bandomo.
Seeking to overcome the result, the Canarian continued to attack in the last round, his best part, but Shikhmambetov knew how to avoid the hardest right of the Spaniard and, with it, reached the end of the fight and became European champions.
Yolber Bandomo’s silver medal is the best historical result of Spanish boxing in this competition and surpassed Rafael Lozano’s bronze from Córdoba in 2023.
