Overall victory for Celestino Vietti in Sepang. The Italian KTM rider was unrivaled in the Moto2 race of the Malaysian GP and dominated every corner of the race to take his third victory of the season, leaving injury problems to restrict his options all year.
In the backJorge Navarro signed a real milestone by achieving a big second place when he got on the bike for the first time last weekend in Thailand replacing Joe Roberts on the American Racing team. Izan Guevera was also very happy to achieve his first podium in the category after two years of real testing.
Celestino Vietti took off and in one lap he had more than a second of margin on the lead. However, the Italian made a mistake in Turn 1 by over braking and Marcos Ramírez, Jorge Navarro and Ai Ogura took advantage to close in on the back of the Red Bull KTM Ajo rider.
By mid-race Navarro seemed to have the most speed and with nine laps remaining the Valencian was in second place chasing Vietti. With seven laps remaining, Ogura was out of the race with a mechanical problem and victory was just two away.
The Italian sent out a strong warning with a harsh change of pace with five laps remaining and this helped him take the victory. But for Navarro, second place is also worth its weight in gold.
Dixon ‘gave away’ the podium
You rarely see mistakes like Jake Dixon’s. The Briton made a mistake and when he crossed the finish line on the penultimate lap he thought the race was over. and then he got up and stopped accelerating in the middle of the straight.
Izan Guevara took advantage of this to overtake his teammate and take the last place on the podium. At least the points are the same for the Aspar Team and they did not lose anything.
