There was a serious fire at the Ahrensfelde (Berlin-Marzahn) train station on Saturday evening. Around 9:50 p.m., a diesel engine truck caught fire, after which the fire brigade arrived with a large contingent. The federal police were also present. The train burned down its entire length and train traffic was halted.
According to the Berlin police, there was no danger to anyone. When the fire brigade arrived, the three cars were already completely on fire; there were no passengers on board.
No injuries, no embers
According to “Bild”, the flames were almost completely extinguished at 11:30 PM and emergency services were still clearing away the remaining embers.
The driver and a train conductor were treated by ambulance personnel as a precaution, but were unharmed.
Witnesses reported heavy smoke before the fire broke out. The affected train was not owned by Deutsche Bahn, but by the private Niederbarnim railway. Ahrensfelde train station will remain closed for the time being.
