The 30-degree limit was broken later this year than in previous years. Still, almost every month is too hot. According to experts, the structure of weather events has changed significantly.
The first heat wave of the year rolled over Austria last week. Temperatures of 30 to 35 degrees and thunderstorms in between caused extreme humidity, which also had an increasingly severe effect on the body. According to experts from the weather service GeoSphere, from the 1950s to the mid-1990s, Austria averaged 35 degrees or more in June only every five years. In recent years, the limit of 30 in the Alpine country has usually been broken in May, sometimes as early as April (as in 2012 and 2018).
