The six-time Spanish cyclocross championthe first national cyclist capable of entering the Belgian “market”, the mecca of world cyclocross, with Ridley Racing Teamwas just beaten on the Pontevedra stage by the 21-year-old young talent Thibau Nysafter an exciting duel that sent Galician fans into a frenzy.
Orts, tenth in the World this season, achieved silver that tasted like gold. This is his best result in a top competition.
“It’s an appointment that I prepared a lot, I know it’s very good for me, even if it’s always difficult. This time, I’m also a little conditioned by the events in Dana, because you have it in mind, but that in the end gave strength to me too”, the cyclist from Vila Joiosa tells EFE.
A medal that for Orts “represents the confirmation that in these years he is progressing towards a higher level and allows him” to be closer to the best.
“Now I have convinced myself that I have the level to compete in any high-level race. This is a race like gold for me, there is a good level despite some absences, like in Van der Poel or Van Aert , that of the Europeans with regulars,” he said.
The signing for the Belgian team and the silver in Pontevedra is a real boost for the confidence of Felipe Orts, who usually follows the development.
“In Belgium I gained confidence, I am no longer the one who goes to Belgium to see what happens, now I am one, with more ways and more possibilities to develop in cyclocross. There you work in a different way and you have to compete with the best. It’s a closed place, but reaching it is a solution for the development of Spanish cyclocross, with runners with a future,” he commented.
From now on, Felipe Orts will try to close the season, rest and then prepare for the World Cup.
“It is time to rest and then face the World Cup and the Spanish Championship, where I will try to achieve a seventh title.
On his ambitions, Orts admits that at the national level he feels a step ahead of others, but at the international level he does not consider it “realistic” to beat the best.
“Kevin Suarez It’s the most direct rival, but right now I’m above it. Among the best in the world, we must consider that there are some very good ones and placing myself next to them is not a realistic goal,” he concluded.
