Carlos Alcaraz is off to a good start at the ATP Finals. The Murcian avoided his most formidable rival in the draw for the masters tournament held this Thursday in Turin.
The Roland Garros and Wimbledon champion is included in the John Newcombe Group along with Alexander Zverev, Casper Ruud and Andrey Rublevprobably the best possible combination.
Jannik Sinner, Daniil Medvedev, Taylor Fritz and Alex de Minaur will make up the other groupthe Ilie Nastase.
The poor form of Ruud and Rublev, who have not achieved remarkable results since before the summer, leaving Alcaraz as an obvious candidate to earn a ticket to the semifinals with Alexander Zverevrecent Paris Masters 1000 champion, for whom first place must be played to avoid a hypothetical semifinal duel against Sinner, the top favorite for the title.
The tournament begins on Sunday, November 10 with the first matches of a group stage that runs until Friday the 15th. The first two finishers will qualify for the semifinals on Saturday the 16th, while the final will be played on Sunday the 17th.
Regarding the doubles tournament, the couple formed by Marcel Granollers and Horacio Zeballosfinalists in 2020 and 2021 and semifinalists in the last edition, are included in the ‘Mike Bryan Group’ with the couple formed by the Dutch Wesley Koolhof and the Croatian Nikola Mektic; Australians Max Purcell and Jordan Thompson; and the pairing of Finnish Harri Eliovaara and Englishman Henry Patten.
Another doubles group, ‘Bob Bryan’, consists of the Salvadoran Marcelo Arévalo and the Croatian Mate Pavic; the Italians Simone Bolelli and Andrea Vavassori; Indian Rohan Bopanna and Australian Matthew Ebden; and Germans Kevin Krawietz and Tim Puetz.
