The GPDA (Grand Prix Drivers Association), through a statement released through its official account on the social network Instagram, has expressed his displeasure at the financial fines imposed on Formula 1 drivers for swearing.

“As in all sports, the participants must respect the decisions of the judges whether they like it or not, even if they agree or disagree with them. Drivers are no different and fully understand this. Our members are professional drivers who compete in Formula 1, the glory of motor sport they are the gladiators and every race weekend they offer a great show to the fans,” the text begins.

“As for bad words, There is a difference between saying them with the intention of insulting others and doing so in a more informal setting. to describe bad weather or refer to an inanimate target like a Formula 1 car or a driving situation,” he added.

The GPDA also sends a message to Muhammed Ben Sulayem, president of the FIA: “We urge the FIA ​​President to also consider his own tone and language when speaking to our drivers members, or even refer to them, whether in a public forum or otherwise. “Our pilots are adults and don’t need to be educated through the media on trivial topics like wearing jewelry or underwear.”

Regarding the destination of the income from these penalties, he pointed out: “The GPDA has expressed on countless occasions its opinion that monetary fines for pilots are not appropriate. for our sport. “For the last three years, we have asked the FIA ​​President to share details and strategies on how FIA financial fines are allocated and where the funds are spent.”

We also express our concerns about the negative image of these fines for the sport.. Once again, we ask the FIA ​​President to provide financial transparency and maintain an open and direct dialogue with us. “All interested parties must jointly determine how and where the money is spent for the benefit of our sport,” he added.

Finally, the organization said: “GPDA wants to cooperate at all levelsincluding the President of the FIA, to promote our great sport for the benefit of all who work for it, pay for it, watch it and love it. “We’re doing our part.”
