The Prime Minister of Israel, Benjamin Netanyahuordered the immediate dispatch of two rescue planes to Amsterdam following “a very violent incident” directed against Israeli citizens, his office said Friday, after reports of party-related attacks Ajax-Maccabi of Tel Aviv, of Europa League.
The Dutch Prime Minister, Dick Schoofdeclared on Friday that what happened was unacceptable, adding that all perpetrators should be prosecuted.
“I followed the news of Amsterdam in disgust,” he said Schoof in a post on X where he also said he was in touch with his Israeli counterpart, Benjamin Netanyahuabout the event.
The Ministry of National Security Israel Its citizens in the Dutch city were also urged to stay in their hotel rooms following the attacks, the prime minister’s office said in a second statement.
“Fans watching a football match were met with anti-Semitism and attacked with unimaginable cruelty simply because of their Judaism and ‘Israeliness,'” Israel’s Security Minister said. Itamar Ben-Gvirin a post on X.
Local police said 57 people were detained after the game in a pro-Palestinian march trying to reach the stadium. Johan Cruyffeven though the city banned them from protesting there. Police said fans left the stadium without incident, but later in the evening there were several clashes in the city centre.
The Israeli army said on Friday it was preparing the immediate deployment of a rescue mission with the coordination of the Dutch government after the soccer match, in which the Ajax Amsterdam lost 5-0 Tel Aviv Maccabi.
“The mission will be deployed using cargo aircraft and will include medical and rescue teams,” the Israel Defense Forces.
Videos that circulated on social media showed crowds of people running through the streets and a man being beaten.
