The Permanent Commission of the Spanish Paralympic Committee (CPE) approved at the meeting this Friday award Elena Congost an exceptional ADOP scholarshipsuch as the one that would reward him for taking a bronze medal in the marathon for visually impaired athletes at the Paris Paralympic Games, an event in which he disqualified for letting go of the rope connecting him to his guide, Mia Carolwhen he was preparing to help her when she passed out a few meters from the finish line.
The decision adopted by the CPE governing body means that Elena Congost will now start receiving a scholarship 2,050 euros per month, the same monthly amount that your guide will also charge. His coach, for his part, will receive 900 euros per month, amounts equivalent to the Bronze Podium scholarship, which is what he would have received if he had received the medal in Paris.
This exceptional scholarship will be valid until approval of the ADOP Plan for the year 2025 and the resolutions of the Decision Panels that the aforementioned plan planned pending approval, which may occur in the first quarter of next year.
The granting of this scholarship is an extraordinary decision of the Permanent Commission of the CPE outside the ADOP 2024 Plan, which was approved by the General Assembly of the CPE on December 20, 2023. It had to be done in this way because it was an unplanned meeting of Decision of the Panel of the ADOP Plan to be implemented in the year 2024 or until the launch of the new ADOP Plan for the 2025-2028 cycle, which is expected in the first months of the year 2025.
